The London Coliseum brings us more opera, this one in the form of Marnie, a compelling psychological thriller, set in the late 1950s in England. Marnie makes her living as an embezzler – embezzling from her employers, after which she changes her identity and moves on to the next.  When one of her bosses catches her out he blackmails her into marrying him. At this point Marnie is forced to confront her past trauma. The tale is based on Winston Graham’s novel and was inspired by the screenplay. The story looks at the price to pay for freedom, the limits of forgiveness and faces the impossible task of escaping the past.

This opera is the second world premiere for composer Nico Muhly, following Two Boys in 2011. Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer is making his UK opera debut in collaboration with ENO Music Director Martyn Brabbins. Grammy Award-winning mezzo Sasha Cooke sings the title role, with acclaimed bass-baritone Daniel Okulitch singing Mark Rutland, and joining them also is ENO favourite Lesley Garrett.

Marnie tickets are now on sale, selling for 18th November through to 3rd December 2017, tickets start at £26.00.
