The Duchess Theatre

Nov 15, 2014

We recently visited the Duchess Theatre, to see The Play That Goes Wrong (which is amazingly funny by the way!!).

The theatre is just off The Strand, has a lot of restaurants and bars around it, so is very convenient. It first opened it’s doors on†25th November, 1929 and has had some notable productions along the way, including Blithe Spirit, Oh! Calcutta!, The Buddy Holly Story, Ruby Was and The Pitman Painters.

It must be one of the smallest of the London theatres with only 479 seats over two levels – very intimate, which works particularly well for The Play That Goes Wrong (I won’t spoil it for those who have yet to see this play, but get there early, and take your seats early!!).

The Duchess also recently hosted a one-night-only with Dame Diana Rigg, which featured†stories from many of her friends in theatre and film and a history of theatre criticism with reviews from as far back as Ancient Greece.
