Groundhog Day

So, the current rumours suggest that John C Reilly ( Casualties of War; Chicago ) is to star in Tim Minchin’s stage production of Groundhog Day, at the Old Vic next year.

Last year Minchin confirmed that he will be involved in a stage adaptation of the film Groundhog Day – which is a 1993 American fantasy comedy film  starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, and Chris Elliott.

“It seems that our wee secret has leaked: I’m working on a stage musical adaptation of the iconic and brilliant Danny Rubin script, Groundhog Day,” he wrote on his blog (Timminchin.com), adding that the show would be notably different from the film.

The musical comedian added: “I think many of its ideas could be enhanced by the stage. It has the potential to be complex, dark, visually fascinating, and thematically rich, whilst still being a joyous romantic comedy with cool tunes and lots of gags. It’s certainly not an easy job, and I’m truly honoured – and genuinely excited – that Danny is letting me have a crack at it.”

When we know more about the time and place of Groundhog Day we will, of course, let you know!  Check back, tickets are sure to go on sale a while before the show is premiered and, as with all Minchin shows, is also certain to sell very well.
