My Night With Reg

Mar 4, 2015

So, on Monday 2nd March 2015 off we went to the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue to see My Night With Reg.

On the website, the description is along the lines of “a bunch of friends gather to party through the night. This is summer, 1985 and for this bunch of friends life is about change for ever. Funny & bittersweet”.

I absolutely think that sells the play short. Yes, it is funny – there are some absolutely hilarious lines in the play, and yes, it is bittersweet. The story is very poignant, captures the reality of life and death and the sadness of loss.

The whole cast were excellent in their roles as Guy, John, Daniel, Eric, Benny and Bernie.  I congratulate them on a very well produced and acted show.

The theatre was not full on Monday evening, I doubt that many theatres are on a Monday evening to be honest, but I believe that the whole audience appreciated and enjoyed the evening.

The cast of Matt Bardock as Benny, Jonathan Broadbent as Guy, Richard Cant as Bernie, Julian Ovenden as John, Lewis Reeves as Eric and Geoffrey Streatfeild as Daniel are the original original Donmar cast and have reprised their roles for this hotly anticipated West End transfer.

Following its critically-acclaimed sell-out season at the Donmar Warehouse, Kevin Elyot’s classic comedy has transferred to the Apollo Theatre for 11 weeks only, with final night on Saturday 11th April, so if you think this is for you, I would suggest getting your tickets sooner rather than later.
