The Ferryman

The Ferryman will open at the Royal Court Theatre in April, but that season is fully sold out, having sold out in just 1 day and thus becoming the fastest selling play in the history of the Royal Court Theatre.

However, with a transfer to the Gielgud Theatre confirmed, from 20th June for just 16 weeks, there is still a chance to see The Ferryman.  However, we do believe that these tickets will also sell very quickly, especially once the show open in April at the Royal Court if it receives 5* reviews.

This production of Jez Butterworth’s drama is to be produced by Sam Mendes, returning to theatre production after his recent film successes of Skyfall and Spectre. Butterworth helped with the scripts of both films.

Paddy Considine will make his professional theatre debut in this play, and will be joined on stage by a cast of 38, including Laura Donnelly in the role of Caitlin Carney and Genevieve O’Reilly in the role of Mary Carney. The cast will also include Bríd Brennan, Turlough Convery, Fra Fee, Tom Glynn-Carney, Stuart Graham, Gerard Horan, Carla Langley, Des McAleer, Conor MacNeill, Rob Malone, Dearbhla Molloy, Eugene O’Hare and Niall Wright with further casting to be announced.

The play is set in rural Northern Ireland in 1981, the height of the Troubles and the year of the hunger strike in which Bobby Sands and nine other republican prisoners starved themselves to death. In rural Derry, the Carney farmhouse is a hive of activity with preparations for the annual harvest.  A day of hard work on the land and a traditional night of feasting and celebrations lie ahead. But this year they will be interrupted by a visitor.

The Ferryman tickets are now on sale, for a 16 week run from 20th June, with opening night on 29th June 2017.
