The Rose Theatre at Kingston also has the new show Good Canary, which is directed by John Malkovich. This is a witty play, but is hard-hitting with the exploration of the spiral of self-destruction.

John Malkovich is an award-winning actor and director, but makes his London theatre directing debut with this premiere of Zach Helm’s play Good Canary. Malkovich has produced the play previously, in Mexico City and Paris, to sell-out audiences. In Paris it was also nominated for six French Moliere Awards, winning for Best Director and Best Design.

The story is set in New York is the story of author Jack.  After receiving rave reviews for his first novel, Jack is close to signing a multi-million-dollar deal with a leading publisher. However, his wife Annie is struggling with addiction and mental illness, and there is concern  about whether she will be able to cope with the public attention that comes with success.
