Later this week we will go on sale with Travesties which is  a revival of Tom Stoppard’s play,  Travesties has been performing at Menier Chocolate Factory and will transfer to the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End with performances beginnin on 3 February 2017.

The revival’s full cast has yet to be announced for the West End, but currently stars Tom Hollander, Amy Morgan, Freddie Fox, Clare Foster and Forbes Masson.

Following a completely sold-out season at the Menier Chocolage Factory on the South Bank, very strong and positive reviews were received

Directed by Patrick Marber the production features design by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Neil Austin, and sound design and original music by Adam Cork.

The synopsis of this comedy is:

Set primarily in Zürich, Switzerland during the First World War, Travesties follows an English consular official, Henry Carr who is living in the city alongside a collection of intriguing personalities. These include the communist revolutionary Lenin, the founder of Dada Tristan Tzara, and Irish author James Joyce. As Carr begins to recall his memories and experiences of living in the city, he thinks about his time amongst the characters who become muddled in his mind with characters from Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest.

The show premiered in 1974 with a production by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Aldwych Theatre. After a run of 156 performances it was transferred to the Albery Theatre and then on to the Ethel Barrymore Theater on Broadway. In 1993 the RSC revived Travesties for a season at the Barbican Theatre, and was then transferred to the Savoy Theatre.  In 1996 Travesties won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award & Tony Award for Best Play and the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy.
