Randy Newman in Concert

Randy Newman, American singer-songwriter, has been a professional composer since the age of 17, and his first single as a performer was 1962’s “Golden Gridiron Boy” at the age of 18. This song was not a success and he chose to concentrate on composing for several years following his debut single. He was heavily influenced by Ray Charles as he was growing up, and some of his earliest compositions were recorded by the likes of Gene Pitney, Jerry Butler, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Jackie DeShannon, The O’Jays and Irma Thomas. He reached chart success in the UK with Cilla Black’s “I’ve Been Wrong Before” (No. 17, 1965), Gene Pitney’s “Nobody Needs Your Love” (No. 2, 1966) and “Just One Smile” (No. 8, 1966); and the Alan Price Set’s “Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear” (No. 4, 1967).

Randy Newman has also been prolific in the composing and scoring for films, with work including all 3 of the Toy Story movies, A Bug’s Life, Cars 3, Meet The Parents, Seabiscuit, The Princess and the Frog and many, many more.  He is the winner of no less than six Grammy awards, three Emmys, and two Academy Awards – with many other nominations for Grammys, Emmys, Academy Awards, BAFTAs and Golden Globes.

The new album, Dark Matter, recently released in August this year is his first new material in nice years. The album has been received with widespread critical acclaim.  Newman will commence touring in the US in September, with the only currently scheduled performance outside of the USA to be the stage of the London Palladium on 14th March 2018.  He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 – the same year he was given an Ivor Novello PRS for Music Special International Award.

Tickets start at £73 for this very special one-day-only event.
