The Girls

Gary Barlow has revealed that he will be writing a new musical, The Girls, based on the film and play Calendar Girls.  The musical will have it’s premiere in Leeds in November, and will then move to Salford in January. Gary Barlow became involved because of his long friendship with Tim Firth, writer of Calendar Girls.

The film starred Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, and the stage show has toured the UK, not once, but twice.  As a result almost £4m has been raised for leukemia and lymphoma research.

Auditions were held in June at The Lowry in Salford to find a 17 year old teenager to play the part of Tommo, the son of Miss September. I would imagine that the lucky lad will be have a very successful start to a career in the theatre!

Tickets are already selling fast, and this one is sure to be a massive success, isn’t everything that Gary Barlow is involved with?!  Rumour also has it that this will be heading to London’s West End in 2016 – keeping fingers crossed!

The Girls Tickets Leeds for the Grand Theatre Leeds are on sale now.
