The Toxic Avenger

The UK premiere of The Toxic Avenger was at Southwark Playhouse, with a sold-out season and receipt of 6 Off West End Award nominations. From September through to December this cult rock musical will move to the stage of the Arts Theatre, for a strictly limited run. The Arts theatre is located very conveniently, only moments from Leicester Square, Leicester Square tube station and Covent Garden. It is a small, but very quaint theatre, which brings a great atmosphere for the audience.

Joe DiPetro and David Bryan (original founding member and keyboard play/vocalist with Bon Jovi) are the team behind Memphis, for which they won a Tony Award. They now bring to the stage Toxie, who is a 7 foot tall mutant freak with superhuman strength and a superhuman heart as well.  He wants to save New Jersey, end global warming and with the heart of a pretty, but blind, librarian. He not only wants to achieve all this, but he wants to do it in time to get home for dinner!

The musical is based on the cult classic from 1984, set in Tromaville where aspiring earth scientist Melvin Ferd the Third comes along with his wish to clean up the toxic wast problem. He must, however, take on a corrupt Mayor in the town, and survive a dunking in a vat of toxic waste which, of course, turns him into The Toxic Avenger, the first superhero of New Jersey.

The cast announced for the run at the Southwark Playhouse includes Mark Anderson (The Book of Mormon, Legally Blonde) who stars as Toxie alongside Hannah Grover (Ghost, Evita), Lizzii Hills (Chicago, EastEnders), Marc Pickering (Sleepy Hollow, Les Miserables) and Ashley Samuels (The Book of Mormon).

The Toxic Avenger tickets are now on sale for the transfer to the Arts Theatre and prices start at an amazingly low £19.50.
