Woyzeck previews at the Old Vic theatre on Saturday 13th May, with press night on Tuesday 23rd May 2017. Jack Thorne breathes new life in this extraordinary play. Based in Berlin during the 1980s with the Cold War raging while the world sits between Capitalism and Communism. The East and West borders are patrolled by soldiers and on the border one young soldier and his partner are desperately trying to build a future for themselves and their child. However, the cost of this is high with tragic consequences as the story unfolds.
The cast announcement confirms that John Boyega [ Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens ] plays Woyzeck. John has received the 2016 BAFTA Rising Star Award and the Chopard Trophy at Cannes.
Ben Batt [ A Streetcar Named Desire; As You Like It; The Funfair; Making Noise Quietly ]plays Andrews. Nancy Carroll [ The Moderate Soprano; The Magistrate ] plays Maggie. Nancy has won an Olivier Award for Best Actress for her role in After the Dance and Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress at the Evening Standard Awards. Nancy’s television credits include Will, Father Brown (Series 1- 5), Tennison, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, Call The Midwife, Silent Witness, Lewis, Midsummer Murders and Cambridge Spies. Film credits include An Ideal Husband, Iris and The Gathering Storm. Darrell D’Silva [ X; Wendy & Peter Pan; Hedda Gabler ] plays Doctor Martens. Tony and Olivier Award nominated actress Sarah Greene plays Marie.
