Opera singer Tosca’s love for artist Cavaradossi knows no compromise. But with Rome in turmoil, the personal becomes political. Sadistic police chief Scarpia wants Tosca for himself and, to his manipulative mind, nothing could be easier than turning the very strength of her passion to his own advantage.
Tosca is a roller coaster story of love, lust, murder and political intrigue. With its dramatic story line and Puccini’s richly romantic score, it is one of the world’s best loved operas.
Set in Rome at the time of Napoleon’s invasion of Italy, Catherine Malfitano‘s insightful production returns to ENO. Fast-rising soprano Keri Alkema is Tosca, with popular ENO artist Gwyn Hughes Jones as Cavaradossi, and Craig Colclough as Scarpia. Puccini specialist Oleg Caetani conducts.
