Dreamgirls will open at The Savoy theatre in London in November 2016. The only cast member we know at the moment is Amber Riley from Glee who will make her West End stage debut in Dreamgirls.

Amber will play the part of the soul singer Effie White in this musical, which is based on the R&B acts like The Supremes in the ’60s.

After playing the role of Mercedes Jones in the TV show Glee, Amber Riley is looking forward to fulfilling a dream of appearing on the West End stage.

Dreamgirls is to be directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw,  [also responsible for directing The Book of Mormonwho also directed The Book of Mormon]. This will be the first time Dreamgirls has appeared on the UK stage.

The plot revolves around a trio of female singers from Chicago, who name themselves The Dreams.  Songs that are featured in the show include And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going, I Am Changing, Listen and One Night Only.  The trio soon learn the hard lesson that show business may be about fame and fortune and may be truly fabulous, but it is also very tough.

Rile’s previous stage performances include Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Into the Woods and Mystery on the Docks.  She also participated, and won, Dancing with the Stars in 2013.

After hearing Amber sing a couple of the songs from the soundtrack of Dreamgirls, Sonia Friedman stated how impressed she was with her voice and how excited and pleased we should all be to be able to hear her as Effie in London.

Ticket for this exciting new musical are now available, booking from 21st November 2016 through to 20th April 2017 at the moment.
